Of the 12 national parks in New Zealand, Arthur's Pass National Park is the only one with a church. Arthur's Pass Alpine Chapel or Chapel of the Snows as it is affectionately called is situated at the base of Avalanche Creek Falls in the small alpine village of Arthur's Pass (population of 50!).
The chapel was built with voluntary contributions and opened in 1956.
It features stone and block exterior, timber interior and a slate roof.
Enjoy superb views of Avalanche Creek Falls and native bush through
a large triangular window behind the altar.
The chapel is interdenominational and services can be performed by a civil marriage celebrant. Seating for up to 50.
