For a more formal garden wedding an immaculate rose garden is the perfect
venue to exchange vows of everlasting love. The Parnell Rose Gardens
are a showcase for many rose varieties, laid out in formal beds within
the Dove-Myer Robinson Park. The gardens were first laid out and planted
in 1934 with over 4500 roses and today has over 5000 roses. The gardens
still have some of the original roses planted 60 years ago.
The rose gardens are enhanced by many mature trees and the Dove-Myer Robinson Park has some wonderful old pohutukawa trees believed to be at least 140 years old. These trees are known as the N.Z. Christmas tree and in December when it is in full bloom with it red flowers it is a wonderful sight. You can also take in the dramatic views over the city and Waitemata Harbour from lookout points along the park border.
The Rose Gardens are at their best between November and March with their peak display in November and draw thousands of visitors from New Zealand and overseas to view the brilliant spectacle of thousands of roses in full bloom.
